BCLA Webinar on Axial Length Measurement

Axial length measurement theories to be shared in webinar

An upcoming BCLA webinar will look at the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of axial length measurement as part of a discussion around the theory of myopia management.

With myopia on the rise around the globe and myopia management now playing a big part of the day-to-day activities in many practices, the webinar feature will help boost delegates knowledge of myopia and increase confidence when measuring axial length.

Delivered by Topcon and presented by Sarah Farrant, the session will provide an opportunity for delegates to understand the important role axial length measurements play in the early diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of myopic patients, and how this data can be used and presented to enhance communication with parents and children, as well as to support clinical decision making.

Sarah, who runs dual-location independent practice Earlam and Christopher, added: “The use of axial length growth curves will be discussed along with their use in understanding the likelihood of developing high myopia in adulthood and their use to monitor the need to start or modify interventions.

“Cases will be used to highlight where using axial length measurements in combination with standard refractive procedures have enabled treatment protocols to be adapted based on patient responses with a view to improving outcomes.”

The webinar will be held from 7pm on Wednesday, 8 May. This webinar is open to all and one CPD point will also be available to all that are eligible to receive.

Sarah has specialties in ocular pathology, dry eye and myopia management. She is a leading expert in therapeutics and dry eye management and represents the UK as an Ambassador for the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS). She is a consultant to numerous ophthalmic companies and is the current President-Elect of the BCLA.
